Ringsend and District Historical Society will hold its Bloomsday festival from 12th – 16th June. A full programme of events will soon be announced but the opening event is the writers event which once again will be a competition open to both adults and children with voucher prizes of €200, €100, and €75 on offer for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, in both sections .
The writers event will take place on Thursday June 12th at 7pm in the Ringsend and Irishtown Community Centre and it’s the opening event of the festival.
We are now appealing to all you writers out there, both young and old, to get your piece in whether as a short story, poem, act, or performance.
Entries can be written, in a video or Tik Tok format, showing an act or performance and can include backing music if you wish – basically we are looking for YOU to decide how you want to present your poem or short story so don’t be shy.
All pieces will be read /acted or performed on the night and can be on any subject you feel is relevant to you.
For the children’s event we are engaging with the local schools and hoping to get the children to engage with their families especially older relatives to try get their memories down in print for future generations to enjoy but again the competition is open to ALL children of the area and topic wise we encourage everyone to write what’s important to them.
Last year’s event was special with regards to the wide variety of topics covered by all who participated and from our last two events we were able to publish a book of these outstanding works. Our next edition will include this year’s entries too so all you budding writers let’s get working on that piece you always wanted to write, act, or perform and send them in email format if it’s poetry/short story, or video format if it’s acting or performance ASAP(closing date 30th May) to Thomasgregg62@gmail.com.
