Happenings, a company that prides itself on organising “spontaneous, meaningful cultural events” in an outdoor setting, will host a screening of the modern classic Billy Elliott in Sandymount Green on Saturday April 30th.
The event has been put together in conjunction with the Sandymount Tidy Towns Community Association and the Sandymount Community Centre. The strict Leave No Trace policy will be enforced and attendees are advised to bring a blanket, something to sit on and of course good vibes.
Entry at the door is €5 at the door and the film begins at sunset.
The screening will unite people who love the film and wish to revisit it with those who are just being introduced to it. Set in England during the coal-miners’ strike of the mid 1980s, Billy Elliott tells the story of a boy who aspires to be a ballet dancer, but must overcome the stereotypes that he is bombarded with. The film was a critical and box office success, won a variety awards and was adapted into a long-running West End musical.
