Have a brew for charity for Ireland’s Biggest Coffee Morning this Thursday.
All across Ireland people will be coming together in their homes, places of work, and local organisations to raise money for local hospice services.
Bewley’s has provided the coffee grounds free of charge to every group taking part in Ireland’s Biggest Coffee Morning. €2 from every cup of Bewley’s coffee drank as part of the #coffee4hospice events will go to help local hospices, which provide palliative care to those in the latter stages of serious illnesses, ensuring their quality of life. Hospice services in Ireland are under a massive strain – for our population there should ideally be 450 beds nationwide, whereas there are only approximately 155 currently operational – and the money raised will go towards relieving this pressure by providing more beds and staff.
Last year’s event was a massive success, and the benefits did show. Of the 3,149 people who accessed specialist palliative care in 2013, 23% were new patients, which was an increase of 10% from 2012. 87% of those accessing palliative care were seen within a week of being referred to the service, a 14% increase on 2012.
Bewley’s Brand Director, Mark Saunders said of the event: “Bewley’s are delighted to continue their long-standing support of Ireland’s Biggest Coffee Morning for the 22nd year. Hospice care is about ensuring the best possible quality of life for people throughout our communities. Every cup of our coffee consumed on behalf of Hospice on the 18th September will contribute to making a difference to someone’s quality of life and we want as many people as possible to take part all over Ireland. We provide Bewley’s fresh ground coffee free of charge to all coffee morning hosts. The more cups of Bewley’s coffee that people enjoy the greater the benefit that will be achieved for hospices and communities all over Ireland.”
If you can’t make any of the events on Thursday, Ringsend College will be holding their coffee morning this Friday at 11am. The college will be raising funds for Our Lady’s Hospice in Harold’s Cross and LauraLynn Children’s Hospice in Leopardstown.
